Open Days for the new mental health unit “Tumanako” located at Whangarei Hospital have now been confirmed.
The Opening Day on 7 October 2011, will commence with a dawn blessing at 5am. As the dawn breaks the Tomokanga and the Pou can be viewed and the new building will be blessed for all staff and patients who will be working or staying in the unit.
Later in the morning the Minister of Health will lead the official opening of “Tumanako” together with the Northland DHB Board members. Guests will be able to walk around the inside of the building following the Opening Ceremony.
On Wednesday 12 October 2011 from 10am – 2pm, there will be an Open Day for the public and staff to view Tumanako. Mental Health staff will be available to take tours at 30 minute intervals through the unit, showing visitors the innovative and unique design features.
Additionally, from 11.30am – 1.30pm on Tuesday 11 October and Thursday 13 October 2011, there will be Open Lunch hours for Northland DHB staff.
