The Open Day for the new mental health unit “Tumanako” took place on 7 October 2011. A dawn blessing by local Kaumatua started the day off at 5am which was followed by an official opening by Northland DHB Board members. Guests were invited to take a tour of the new building which has been described as a state of the art facility.
On Wednesday 12 October 2011 from 10am – 2pm, there will be an Open Day for the public and staff to view Tumanako with Mental Health staff being available to take tours at 30 minute intervals.
There will also be tours available to NDHB staff from 11.30am – 1.30pm on Tuesday 11 October and Thursday 13 October 2011.
Migration to the new Unit has begun this week with administration staff moving to their light, fresh, warm new offices. Migration of the patients will begin early next week wherein they will receive the full advantage of the latest technology installed in the sensory rooms and gym.
