Northland DHB Hospital Redevelopment Private: Cancer Centre

Project Promise

Picture1

In partnership with Northland District Health Board, Northland Community Foundation launched Project Promise in March 2010 to raise $3 million as kick-start funds to build a cancer treatment (oncology) centre.

This will be based at Whangarei Hospital to provide better services for Northland people.

Previously many Northlanders with cancer travelled to Auckland or were treated in a Whangarei facility that was too small. This means there was little privacy and limited space for family or friends supporting people receiving cancer treatment.

Travelling to Auckland is expensive for cancer patients, but more importantly, it means Northlanders are away from home and family support during their treatment.

The Jim Carney Cancer Centre is a bigger cancer treatment centre that provides day stay treatment for cancer patients. Services available include initial consultations, chemotherapy treatments and follow-up from a team of medical experts.

This means when a person is diagnosed with cancer they and their family will have access to all the information and support they need under one roof.
