Northland DHB Hospital Redevelopment Private: Car Parking

Project Brief

Car parking for the public at Whangarei Hospital has been an issue for many years with security and lack of availability of car parks causing frustration and upset. Paid car parking is part of our financial sustainability programme and the revenue generated will help us to afford and invest in building new car parks, improving security and maintaining car parking facilities.

Visitors to site will all receive 30 minutes of free parking.

Mobility parks will be provided across the campus, standard car parking charges will apply.

Barrier arms will be fitted with an intercom, however there will be signage directing car park users to the hospital reception if they would prefer not to use the intercom.

100% exemptions from paid car parking will be granted for: renal patients who drive themselves to their appointments, volunteers, blood donors and patients undertaking chemotherapy treatment.

There will continue to be free car parks on Hospital Road and State Highway 14. Parking is free across the campus between the hours of 5pm and 8am weekdays and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Having reviewed existing car parking on site, the future site redevelopment plan, car parking systems implemented at other Hospitals and Council requirements we believe the proposed car parking strategy will best address the limitations of our current situation.
