The benefits of the Maternity new build are:

An improved standard of care for women and their families/whanau.

Appropriate environment within Maternity Services to provide care for women based on their level of acuity.

An integrated and collaborative multi disciplinary team approach to caring for women.

Improved operational function working as one Maternity Unit versus two separate wards.

Improved working environment for NDHB staff and “access holders” (self employed Lead Maternity Carers).

The new facility will house all Maternity services under one roof and includes five birthing rooms with ensuite facilities, 18 inpatient beds consisting of mainly one and two bedroom units all with ensuite facilities and four antenatal clinic rooms. In addition the unit will have two maternity assessment rooms.

A central reception area for Maternity Services

A central office/workstation for Antenatal Clinics, Maternity Assessment Unit, Birthing Suite and Inpatient Unit

An additional private secure entrance

A mothers lounge and a parents lounge

Two baby feeding rooms

Two birthing pools

Provision of a “butterfly” room for foetal and neonatal demises

A meeting room for antenatal classes

A waiting room for visitors
